Rochester's Clarity Syndicate Expands Support for Medtech Companies Through New Partnership
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Clarity Syndicate, a Rochester-based firm providing fractional executive leadership, consulting and investment to medical technology and health care companies, has named VOLARE AI its business analysis partner. The partnership introduces a structured assessment process designed to help founders evaluate their businesses and establish priorities before bringing in executive leadership or deploying capital.

Under the arrangement, Clarity Syndicate engagements will begin with an assessment led by Jenn Piper, a Rochester-based business adviser and certified exit planning adviser with VOLARE AI. The assessment evaluates six drivers of business value: finance, sales, marketing, recruiting, leadership and artificial intelligence readiness. Findings will inform a prioritized 90-day roadmap to help determine which operational challenges require attention and what type of fractional executive support may be appropriate.
Medtech moves fast, and founders need to do more with less," said Ryan Mooney, founder of Clarity Syndicate. "Starting with Jenn's assessment means we understand the business holistically before we assess embedding a fractional executive. She owns the strategy, our fractional executives own the execution, and the founder gets both pulling in the same direction on day 1.
Connecting business assessments with executive leadership
Clarity Syndicate works with medtech and health care companies at various stages of development, providing access to experienced executives in areas such as regulatory strategy, clinical sales and commercialization. Its fractional executive model allows businesses to bring in senior leadership expertise without immediately committing to full-time executive hires.
The new process begins with a 30-minute consultation with Clarity Syndicate, followed by a discussion with Mooney and Piper to evaluate the company's direction, challenges and leadership needs. The resulting assessment and roadmap are intended to guide which executive resources are deployed and establish their initial responsibilities.
Medtech founders usually have several good moves available and limited runway to spend on them," Piper said. "The assessment helps them decide which one comes first. Working alongside Ryan's team here in Rochester means the plan and the people to carry it out arrive together.
The partnership reflects a broader challenge facing emerging medical technology companies: balancing product development, regulatory requirements, commercialization and capital needs while operating with limited resources. Identifying business priorities early can help founders make more informed decisions about where to invest time, leadership capacity and funding.
Supporting Rochester's medtech industry
The partnership brings together two Rochester-based advisers serving companies in a region with established strengths in medical devices, diagnostic technologies, imaging and health care research.
According to Greater Rochester Enterprise, the region's life sciences industry includes major employers such as Bausch + Lomb, CooperVision, Carestream Health and QuidelOrtho. Rochester's expertise in optics, photonics and precision manufacturing also supports medical technology development, particularly in diagnostic equipment, imaging systems and biomedical applications.
Regional institutions, including the University of Rochester and NextCorps, contribute research, commercialization resources and startup support. Their work helps connect emerging technologies with the expertise and infrastructure needed to bring products to market.
For medtech founders, however, developing a promising technology is only one part of building a sustainable business. Regulatory pathways, clinical adoption, financial planning and commercial execution can require specialized leadership that early-stage companies may not yet have in place.
Clarity Syndicate's approach focuses on addressing those business needs through fractional executive leadership and targeted consulting. Beyond executive placement, the firm also offers project-based advisory services and direct investment in pre-seed, seed and growth-stage medtech and health care companies.
The VOLARE AI partnership adds a formal business assessment to that model, with the goal of aligning strategic priorities and executive responsibilities from the beginning of an engagement.
The companies have not disclosed financial terms of the partnership or identified initial participating businesses.
