What We Cover
The business and innovation economies shaping midsize cities. Connected Know covers companies from launch through exit, capital and investment, mergers and acquisitions, leadership moves, expansions, university spinouts, and the founders, executives, investors, and builders behind them.
Each market has its own hub for local business news, events, companies, and people, connecting what’s happening locally with the broader business landscape. Today that is Rochester, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Syracuse.
How the Site Works
Events are gathered every night from the calendars of local organizations, including chambers, incubators, universities and meetups, and from public submissions. Every event is approved by an editor before it is listed. Our own events are marked Connected Know Local, and events from organizations we work with are marked Connected Partners. All other events are listed because they are relevant to our readers, not because anyone paid for placement.
Stories are written and edited by Connected Know, drawing on interviews, public filings, company announcements and reader tips. Founder Insights profiles start from a questionnaire completed by the founder. A first draft is prepared from their answers with software assistance, then reported, edited and fact-checked by an editor before it is published. Every story carries its publication date and author.
The Connected Index is a directory of the public and private companies in each city we cover. Each private company has a business profile, which focuses on the business itself rather than the people who run it.

Ownership and Funding
Connected Know is independently owned and operated in Rochester, New York. It is not part of a larger media group. The site is funded by its own events, by partner and sponsor relationships that are always disclosed where they appear, and by the people who run it. No investor, advertiser or partner has a say in what we publish.
